Exemptions
The syllabi of both the University courses and the Professional bodies are subject to change. Exemptions from the professional examinations of the various professional institutes are negotiated between the Department of Accounting and Finance and the relevant professional institutes from time to time. The exemptions which are currently agreed between the Department and each of the Institutes are set out below:
Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland (ICAI)
ICAI have just completed a major review of their syllabus and examination structure. The old Professional 2 and Professional 3 examinations will be replaced by CA Proficiency 1 and CA Proficiency 2 examinations. Students who successfully complete the B.Comm (Accounting) programme will have full exemption from the CAP 1 examination.
As yet it is unclear whether ICAI will grant exemptions for any part of CAP 2 to any undergraduate program. However, B.Comm (Accounting) students will cover more than half of the syllabus for CAP 2.
